Frankincense: Could it be a cure for cancer?
February 9th, 2010 at 21:08Were those wise men on to something when they gave frankincense to the baby Jesus? Could it cure cancer? According to a BBC report, some doctors think so, and are carrying out research to prove it.

Fascinating – what will the medical boffins come up with next? Yes perhaps I have, for now, a gentle touch of doubt.
While I like it on an occaisional basis, I am not planning decamp to the nearby parish which uses it on a weekly basis! I will accept the possible risk to my health.
And whatever it does for cancer, it certainly aggravates my younger daughter’s asthma. As for her husband – brought up a Roman Catholic – it makes him feel sick. If it is being used, he has to sit near a door so he can discretely withdraw if the atmosphere gets too pungent.

Colin, I don’t think they are actually suggesting that sitting in a room full of incense smoke is good for you. I would think, given the known effects of any kind of smoke, that is more likely to give you cancer than cure it. I suppose they could compare the life expectancies of incense-toting and low church Anglican priests to get an idea. But I think the current idea is more about finding an ingredient in the resin which can be injected.
