The Investigator

October 16th, 2008 at 16:38

I just took the (free) short form of a questionnaire recommended by Eddie Arthur. It is no surprise to me that he came out as “The Enthusiast”. It is also no surprise how I came out:

Enneagram

Type Five
The Investigator

The perceptive, cerebral type. Fives are alert, insightful, and curious. They are able to concentrate and focus on developing complex ideas and skills. Independent, innovative, and inventive, they can also become preoccupied with their thoughts and imaginary constructs. They become detached, yet high-strung and intense. They typically have problems with eccentricity, nihilism, and isolation. At their Best: visionary pioneers, often ahead of their time, and able to see the world in an entirely new way.

This seems to fit me well. The first three examples of my type are Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates – sounds good to me!

Here are my full results reported in a histogram, showing the areas in which I am relatively strong and relatively weak, according to the rather short and simplified free version of this test:

Type 1 – The Reformer
Type 2 – The Helper
Type 3 – The Achiever
Type 4 – The Individualist
Type 5 – The Investigator
Type 6 – The Loyalist
Type 7 – The Enthusiast
Type 8 – The Challenger
Type 9 – The Peacemaker

hmm… so if we come to you with a problem, we can expect you to investigate it, but not to help! ;-)

turns out I’m an achiever – me and barak obama and bill clinton!

  4. Peter Kirk Says:

Indeed, Matthew, help will come from elsewhere. But you will achieve without my help. Will you be the next president but one?

  5. Stan McCullars Says:

I, too, am in Investigator. An Enthusiast as well.

Apparently you’re more helpful than I am. I scored a zero.

  6. Peter Kirk Says:

Thanks, Stan. By the way, Google Blog Search and WordPress statistics are now picking up your post and ElShaddai’s one linking here. Thanks for the links.

Oh I do like these instant personality tests – I think. Having been through a nummber of real ones, in connection with both work and Reader ministry, it is entertaining to compare them. In fact I’m afraid I tend to regard them a heavy on the entertaibnment factor.

Yet again I found that in some questions neither of the options were a real fit at all, just like the last one of these you put up on this site Peter. However I tried to be honest and came out with Peacemaker as the buggest score. That surprised me a bit – not least because I would have felt I tend towards a quiet studious nature. Perhaps my answers showed as concern about people and for their well which over rode a diffidence in handling them.

Loyalist and investigator were equal seconds.

  8. Peter Kirk Says:

Colin, I agree with you in not taking these tests very seriously. I’m glad you are a peacemaker – the world and the church need plenty of them!
